This c.1830 Eli Terry Jr. eight day brass movement clock is in working condition and appears complete. The clock was made in Terryville, CT and features carved and veneered mahogany. The dial face is painted wood with Arabic numbers and a raised gold wheat motif circling the dial, raised flora designs in the corners, and a gold rimmed cartouche for viewing the escapement. The dial is in good condition with bright gold and clear numerals with some paint checking and flaking. The hands are not original to the clock. It is unlikely the pendulum and pendulum drop are original. The clock marks the hour and half hour with a bell strike.
The back label (inside) shows wear and staining commensurate with age, but communicates the clock's information clearly. There are two modern repair labels inside the case, and some writing from 19th century service as well. The tablet (painting) is in good condition and may have been touched up, but there is a crack across the glass. The pendulum viewing hole is a window inside the painting. The house depicted is unknown, but would typically have been a home in Terryville, CT. There is no case key, but a crank winder is included.
Condition: The clock is in good, running condition and shows signs of its nearly 200 year age and of the many repairs made during that time. We always recommend service by a reputable clock shop to ensure accuracy and longevity.
NOTE: When transporting this clock, remove the weights and the pendulum to reduce the risk of damaging the clock movement. The cables should also be carefully managed to avoid getting tangled in the movement.
