This circa late 1930s gas stove by Caloric of Topton, PA, is a classic and rare stove. The design of the stove comes right out of the era when many people were still cooking on iron ranges-- sometimes gas and sometimes wood! This skirted gas model would have had legs only a few years prior and is distinguished from later stoves by its asymmetrical doors, lack of oven windows, and the ledge around the top, all similar to early 1930s stoves and absent in most 1940s designs. Innovations by Caloric include the clock, timer, and switched outlet on the backsplash. The door handles have been painted red, and were originally black. The stove has some damage from nearly 90 years in service, but it appears to have its original power cord and is ready for a restoration or refurb. Check out the pictures for all the details.
The range features an oven, a broiler oven, 4 burners on top, and a storage drawer/warming oven below the stove. The split top gives a bit of added counter space, and the hinged burner cover gives even more counter space when the stovetop is not in use.
The Caloric brand was started in 1903 by the Klein Stove Company (founded in 1890) in Philadelphia, PA. The company moved to Topton, PA in 1925, and reorganized in 1946 as the Caloric Stove Co. The Topton factory, where this stove was made, was closed down in 1991, and the Caloric brand is no longer made.
This gas range is untested. Sold as is.
